Physio for shoulder pain

Shoulder pain (and Neck Pain) is a very common complaint and can happen through injury (direct impact to the shoulder, elbow or a fall onto the hand or wrist) but shoulder pain can be present even without injury. Chronic shoulder pain can be a worry and really inhibit fun things in life and affect sleep greatly. However a good reminder is regarding the word chronic, referring to 'long-term' as opposed to 'serious'.
A Google search of physio for shoulder pain brings up many terms, conditions and syndromes such as

Rotator Cuff Tear, Shoulder Impingement, Adhesive Capsulitis or 'Frozen Shoulder', Acromioclavicular Joint Disorders, Bursitis, Labral Tears, etc.
But lets think about this for a minute, if there was no direct impact to the shoulder, how could it be painful or injured? In short- the human body is a master compensator. The most common thoughts amongst the world's leading pain and injury specialists is that these terms are localized symptoms and that isolated treatment is just a small part of the bigger picture when it comes to treating Shoulder Pain.

Many times clients tell me that they were just given a cream or gel by their GP to rub into the shoulder or they've been given isolated stretches or exercises for only the shoulder.  When it comes to fully and successfully resolving Shoulder Pain, the shoulder blades, the neck, the thorax/rib cage and spinal control all need to be assessed and dysfunctions resolved.

It's unfortunate that this rarely done from what my clients tell me about their past experiences!

Reasons why your Shoulder Pain is lasting longer than it should;

  • You've been told to 'rest' it

  • You've only been given painkillers or creams/rubs

  • You thought it would just go away

  • You've tried non-specific exercises from Google or YouTube

  • You've tried a few 'massages' or other non-specific treatments

  • You've had 'physio' before but you just didn't get the result you wanted

When you come to see me, I'm going to give you and your body the time and attention it needs and deserves. Along with your shoulder, if there are restrictions in the neck, rib cage or the spine/core is disengaged, I will address these, making sure your body is running smoothly and nothing is getting in the way of long term shoulder health.
